Is there anything more important to the computer user than the precious data that has been created over the years? Your pictures, your music, your tax records and even your software are all too often taken for granted simply because the modern personal computer works so well. The idea that one day the computer or hard drive or flash drive may fail to work just doesn’t enter your daily thinking. Well, let me tell you, hard drives do fail, they do get corrupt, and that’s where I can help.

Data Recovery is a time-intensive process where data on a failed or failing hard drive is first located and then copied to an external hard drive or a DVD. More often than not, this service is better suited to be performed off-site. So be prepared to be without your equipment for a couple of days, at least. Disk Repair is the process where corrupted software on the drive is made healthy bringing the hard drive back to working condition. Disk Repair can usually be performed during a standard on-site visit and is billed by my standard hourly rates.

Data Recovery come in three flavors, Levels 1, 2 & 3. I specialize in Level 1 and Level 2, the two flavors that are affordable to most people. The third flavor is very specialized, and expensive, but I have a partner relationship with two of the most respectable Level 3 shops in the U.S.A. and can save you 10%!

This scenario is where your startup, secondary internal or external hard drive fails to mount, but is not physically damaged. It also applies to deleted files or reformatted disks. Both disk repair and data recovery may be recommended, but data recovery is safer as the first step, as disk repair can sometimes make matters worse. Once your files are safely copied to a supplied hard drive or DVD, disk repair can safely be performed.

In this scenario your hard drive has physical damage, but is accessible for data recovery. The exact data that is recoverable is unknown. The time required is also unknown, so you need to be flexible on the fee. Otherwise you have to move to Level 3.

This data recovery scenario is where your hard drive has physical damage and is not working at all or at a sub-par level. To recover files the drive must be disassembled by specialists and temporarily made workable for file transfer. Just how this is done is fairly secretive. Pricing can also vary based on turnaround requirements.

This scenario is where your computer fails to boot up, but is not physically damaged. The files on the startup drive can still be accessed. This way your files can be copied over to a hard drive and no data is lost. Essentially Level 1 service is data transfer. At this point you may wish to consider repairing, reformatting or replacing the drive, restoring the files and do other things to get you back in the Mac saddle.
